Our cd, BIG CITY BLUES, and our drummer, JEFF HAYES, win Washington Blues Society 2008 "BB" Awards! ***2008 Summer Blues Festivals and Highlight Shows***
June 6 The 2008 "BB Award" winning, Highway 99 Blues Club in Seattle, WA - 9pm See all of our Shows & Events for complete schedules of club shows and other events such as "Music in the Park" in several towns including Mill Creek, Anacortes, Kent, Des Moines, Lacey, Olympia, Kirkland, Redmond, and many more. Significant Band Accomplishments Over The Past Year In October of 2006, we traveled to The Mississippi Delta, performing at The Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival (aka The King Biscuit Blues Festival) in Helena, Arkansas. We also performed in Clarksdale, Mississippi (the home of "The Crossroads" where Highways 61 & 49 intersect) at actor Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Blues Club, then played a "Northwest Blues Double Bill" along with The Paul DeLay Band at a juke joint called Sarah's Kitchen. We recorded some "live in the studio" tracks at Studio 61, also located in Clarksdale. Lastly, we attended Pinetop Perkins' 93rd birthday party at Hopson Plantation, where Pinetop worked as a child! That was the last time we saw Paul DeLay before he passed away. On February 1-3, 2007 we represented The Washington Blues Society at The 2007 International Blues Challenge (IBC) by performing two acclaimed sets at The Hard Rock Cafe on Beale Street in Memphis, TN. Please see our "What They're Saying" page on this website for some of the very positive judges' comments. In April of 2007, we were honored with five "BB" Awards (12 total nominations) by The Washington Blues Society including: Best Blues Band, Best Electric Guitar (T-Boy), Best Bass (WildChild), Performer of the Year (Becki Sue) and Female Vocalist of the Year (Becki Sue). In June of 2007, our long awaited new cd, "Big City Blues" was released. We have been receiving a fair amount of airplay locally (KPLU in Tacoma, KSER in Everett, KBCS in Bellevue), regionally (KINK, KBOO in Portland, KLCC in Eugene, KPBX in Spokane), nationally (KNON in Dallas, TX and KZUM in Lincoln, NE), and worldwide (XM Satellite Radio's Bluesville 74). Many more stations all over the world too numerous to mention have also been playing the disc. Sales, reviews and fan feedback have been very encouraging! In August of 2007 we were informed by Blues Review Magazine that "Big City Blues" has been selected, among thousands of cd's submitted, for a published review. The review will appear in their Dec. '07/Jan. '08 issue. BluesWax online E-zine listed "Big City Blues" as #6 on XM Radio Bluesville 74's "Picks to Click" list for the week of October 13, 2007. We have noted that XM Radio has been playing two cuts from the disc, 'If You Let Me Call You Sweetheart' and 'Tell Me Why', nearly every day for the past couple of months! XM Blues DJ and blues historian, Bill Wax, has been saying some very nice things about our band to his audience. Thanks, Bill! In September of 2007 we were honored with a Muddy Award nomination in the "Best Regional Band" category by The Cascade Blues Association, which is based in the state of Oregon! In October of 2007, Becki Sue & her Big Rockin' Daddies! was named a finalist in a Sonic Bids competition called "Blues Artist on the Rise". We won Round 2 (Round 1 was won by The Tyrone Vaughan band... yes, Jimmie Vaughan's son). Eleven other finalists will be named in the coming months and then a winner will be announced sometime in 2008. you are blues fan # |
